Orlando attracts high-tech Army team in important year for defense industry

The United States Army is another institution that chooses Orlando to carry out cutting-edge activities. This time it’s the U.S. Army’s Synthetic Training Environment Cross Functional Team (STE-CFT) that will move to the University of Central Florida.

The 35 technical and administrative staff will be based at the 84,000-square-foot Partnership IV building in Central Florida Research Park, along with UCF’s Institute for Simulation & Training, an article from the Orlando Business Journal reports.

STE-CFT works with real and virtual environments to modernize training for soldiers. As Orlando stands out more and more in modeling simulation and training in the defense industry, moving to the city was inevitable.

“The STE-CFT headquarters here is evidence of the Army’s commitment to partnering with academia and industry simulation leaders to rapidly develop and field the synthetic training environment,” said Maj. Gen. Maria Gervais, STE-CFT director, in a prepared statement disclosed in OBJ.

The Partnership IV building is part of a five-building complex within the 1,027-acre Central Florida Research Park. The arrival of STE-CFT confirms the objective of space: prevent high-tech military-focused defense groups from leaving Orlando and lure in more groups to create jobs and contract opportunities.

With a $ 674.4 billion spending bill for the defense sector by U.S. President Donald Trump in 2019, the expectation is for many investments. “This year is going to be the best [the defense industry] has had in years,” believes Waymon.
