The collaboration between United Airlines and Azul Linhas Aéreas will be strengthened from May 2023, providing passengers of both airlines with a wide range of flights and destinations in Brazil. The codeshare partnership between the companies was established in 2019, allowing United Airlines to market flights operated by Azul to more than 70 destinations in Brazil. With the new collaboration, United Airlines will be able to market even more Azul-operated flights, including routes to Brasilia, Curitiba, Porto Alegre and Recife.
Azul Linhas Aéreas will also be able to expand its destination offering in the United States, thanks to the collaboration, marketing United Airlines flights to other U.S. cities such as Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. This expansion of the codeshare partnership will benefit customers of both airlines by offering them more flight options and destinations.
John Gebo, senior vice president of Alliances at United Airlines, noted that the expanded partnership “will offer our customers even more choice and flexibility when planning trips to Brazil and the United States. Abhi Shah, vice president of revenue at Azul, said the expanded collaboration is “excellent news for our customers as we increase our presence in one of the world’s most important markets.
Azul Linhas Aéreas is the third largest airline in Brazil in terms of market share, while United Airlines is one of the largest airlines in the world in terms of fleet and revenue. The codeshare partnership will allow both airlines to further expand their presence in the Brazilian and U.S. markets, benefiting customers who will have more flight options and destinations to choose from.
