Top Restaurants to Watch the Solar Eclipse: OpenTable Picks Front-Row Seats to the Summer Eclipse

On August 21, for the first time in 99 years, the skies over the U.S. will serve up a magnificent feast for the eyes — a total solar eclipse that will cast a preternatural shadow across a narrow sliver of land called the Path of Totality. Scores of eclipse chasers will head to both popular and remote destinations within the path to watch the sun go dark, as the eclipse cuts east across the continent.

OpenTable invites enthusiasts to kick their eclipse-watching plans up a notch by booking some of the best seats for the celestial show! Whether watching the eclipse over brunch in Portland or during a late lunch in Charleston, more than 20 restaurants, most of which are located squarely within the path, will boast unobstructed outdoor or rooftop seating, allowing diners to savor the moment in more than one way!

More than just a place to dine and watch, some restaurants, including Middleton Place Restaurant, located 20 minutes outside of Charleston, will be rolling out the red carpet for the event. Famed for its Low Country fare and sprawling grounds, the restaurant will host a professional astronomer who will provide educational talks throughout the day, while the surrounding grounds will be dotted with craft stations for kids as well as food and beverage stations for those visiting the day of the eclipse!

Pro Tips: Book early, where possible. Some restaurants are first come, first served, so arrive early if an advance reservation isn’t possible. Inquire about any special eclipse-viewing parties, events, or menus — and don’t forget to bring your protective eyewear in case they’re not provided!
