Lake Nona Medical City may be growing

Lake Nona’s Medical City currently houses the Orlando VA Medical Center, which opened last year and the Nemours Children’s Hospital, which inaugurated five years ago, but the community seems to be ever growing. As the area of Lake Nona keeps developing, it is calling the attention of many investment groups.

Just last year the Adventist Health System, parent of Florida Hospital, bought a 67.24 – acre site on southeast Orlando, about 13 miles away from Florida Hospital East Orlando. Besides, this week they bought 15 more acres adjacent to the previous 67.

What will be the use given to the land? Well, that is still uncertain. Comments on the plans were not officially made by the group yet, though rumor has it that it could be potentially used for several medical purposes, like a future hospital or one of Florida Hospital’s more recent developments like the freestanding emergency room in Lake Mary, which opened in May and/or an outpatient surgery center.

The latest land sale deed restricts Adventist to a maximum of 145,000 square feet to be used for medical offices, an emergency department, an outpatient surgery center, and health and wellness services that can include chiropractic services, general physical therapy, and rehabilitation services. The deed also allows for dining, vitamin and nutritional supplement retail sales, daycare and a church or other place of worship.
