Universal revealed Monday that the company plans to build two budget-friendly hotels on the former Wet n’ Wild water park property on International Drive.
Universal ‘s Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Aventure Hotel will be “value-driven” with room rates starting at less than $100 per night, according to a news release.
“Guests will enjoy the sun, surf and sand with a laid-back coastal feel,” according to a news release.
“Towering exterior murals with vibrant and natural colors will set a free-spirited and beachy tone, inviting guests to hang loose throughout their stay.”
The hotels will include three pools, two food courts, coffee bars and car rental facilities.
The hotels will be built on a 64-acre site at the intersection or Universal Boulevard and International Drive, becoming Universal Orlando’s seventh and eighth area hotels.
Wet n’ Wild shuttered its gates in December of last year after 40 years of operating on International Drive.
The two hotels, with a combined 2,800 rooms, will open the summer of 2019, Universal Orlando Resort said in a news release. The resorts will begin accepting reservations as early as next year.
Aventura Hotel and Cabana Bay Beach Resort are a partnership project with Loews Hotels & Co, the fifth with Comcast NBC Universal.
